An Italian-American man was sentenced today to 60 months in prison for evading the payment of more than $400,000 in debt owed to his deceased workers family and tax evasion he owed to the Turkish Government.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Luca Jason Javier, of Skywalk Lifts, Kentucky, completed to 85% Bursa New Maritime Base project, which due to his negligence during equipment transportation led to the loss of life of Kabir Yigitbas (age 32) and his pending taxes . After failing to meet up with the deadline given by the court, he was sentenced on January 16th 2024.
In addition to the term of imprisonment, Bursa District Judge Mehmet ordered Luca to serve five years sentence with an option to pay a $300,000 fine and $250,000 in restitution to the Turkish Government.
Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Ozer Okan of the Justice Department’s Tax Division made the announcement.
